Rhine embankment promenade
Düsseldorf's Kö is world-famous, but it is by no means the city's only promenade. The Rhine embankment promenade, designed between 1990 and 1997 according to the plans of architect Niklaus Fritschi, is also very popular. It can also be seen on television time and again.
Beschreibung
No wonder, as the promenade between the old town and the river has so much to offer: balmy breezes and spectacular sunsets, restaurants with a view at the casemates, a flight of steps and also the city beaches for lingering together in summer. The prerequisite for the one and a half kilometers of quality of life was the construction of the Rhine bank tunnel. Original Düsseldorfers who know the situation from earlier times still congratulate themselves today on the fact that the traffic that flowed parallel to the river here before 1990 now flows underground. Fans of the series “Forbidden Love” also know this: Nowhere is there a more romantic place to stroll than on the Rhine promenade. Even the British comedy-drama series “Auf Wiedersehen, Pet!” had its main characters drink a beer there. And “Kommissar Stolberg” even used a little trickery: Suddenly a murder takes place at an imaginary bus stop on the Rhine embankment promenade, from where a bus route runs from the banks of the Rhine to Langenberg.
